Pendleton notes that Gyllenhaal’s last letter “very naturally reflected a state of depression” and he wishes it were possible for him to have a long, undisturbed talk with Gyllenhaal. Pendleton believes everything will turn out well in the end and that the Lord’s Providence was in everything that has happened.
