Letter from N.D. Pendleton to Rev. Fred E. Gyllenhaal, 1921-02-28
Scope and Contents
Typed letter from N.D. Pendleton to Rev. Fred E. Gyllenhaal in London, England. Pendleton has received Gyllenhaal’s letters of Oct. 28th and Jan. 13th. Pendleton would like Gyllenhaal and Mr. Tilson to work together towards “spiritual unity and mutual confidence.” Pendleton foresees that the two neighboring New Church societies, Peckham Rye and Burton Road, will eventually join together, and he hopes that this might take place before Peckham Rye sets up external establishments of its own. Pendleton will soon sail to England for the Assembly with his daughter Ora, Raymond Pitcairn, and Creda and Winfrey Glenn. Pendleton has read with interest the Constitution proposed for Peckham Rye; He approves but is hesitant about the stipulation that the Board of Finance will be appointed by the Treasurer rather than elected by the society. Pendleton hopes that issues relating to the Glanville bequest can be sorted out shortly, it is just a question of getting the matter before the Board of Directors. Pendleton writes that although the Board meets frequently, “we are hard put to it to get things done.” Names mentioned: Mr. (R. J.) Tilson, Mr. Acton, Mr. Ottley, Mr. (Albert) Bjorck, Ora (Pendleton), Raymond Pitcairn, Creda and Winfrey Glenn, Agnes (Gyllenhaal)
