Typed letter from N.D. Pendleton to Rev. Fred E. Gyllenhaal in London, England. Pendleton has received Gyllenhaal’s letter of Aug. 31st. Because the current exchange rate greatly advantages the pound, the Church will immediately forward Gyllenhaal’s salary for the entire year ($1,500 or £430). Pendleton admits that all the Church’s teachers and ministers are greatly underpaid considering the current cost of living, and he hopes that contributions from the Colchester and Peckham Rye societies will bring Gyllenhaal’s salary up to at least £500. Pendleton attempts the resolve Gyllenhaal’s misapprehensions resulting from a lack of communication between the two of them regarding salary and whether Gyllenhaal would move to England. Pendleton gives advice on how to deal with the Treasurer of the Peckham Rye society. He writes that he was greatly distressed by news of the Braby-Forfar affair but does not feel that it is his place to say anything.
