Letter from N.D. Pendleton to Rev. Fred E. Gyllenhaal, 1914-07-13
Scope and Contents
Typed letter from N.D. Pendleton to Rev. Fred E. Gyllenhaal in Port Louis, Mauritius Island. Pendleton has received Gyllenhaal’s letters of April 27th and June 20th. Pendleton anticipated what Gyllenhaal wrote about Mr. Morse and other Church friends in Australia; Pendleton hopes Mr. Morse will be able to come to Bryn Athyn some time in the future. Pendleton was pleasantly surprised by Gyllenhaal’s experiences in Bombay and Bhavnagar with Professor Bhatt and his followers; Conference apparently has not turned Bhatt against the Academy as much as was feared. Regarding Mauritius, Pendleton informs Gyllenhaal that Convention has reportedly sent a minister, Rev. Nussbaum of Portland, Oregon, to the Church group there for one year. Pendleton remains hopeful that the Mauritians will eventually turn to the Academy in the future. Pendleton reports that the minister’s meetings the year were especially interesting; Mr. (Eldred) Iungerich read a paper on the nature of the 10 commandments in the ark, and at a joint meeting, there was discussion between the laity and the ministers about who has the right to select a new Bishop.
