Letter from N.D. Pendleton to Rev. Gaston J. Fercken, 1916-11-16
Scope and Contents
Typed letter from N.D. Pendleton to Rev. Gaston J. Fercken in Lausanne, Switzerland. Pendleton has received Fercken’s letters of Sept. 12th and 16th. Regarding Fercken’s confidential communication about M. Pierre de Chazal, Pendleton advises Fercken to “stand quietly but firmly for the dignity and authority of the priesthood.” Pendleton regrets becoming involved in the Nusbaum engagement as nothing is really known in Bryn Athyn except a vague rumor of marital difficulties, and he recommends that the matter be dropped. Owing to the new working scholarship program, attendance at the Bryn Athyn schools is at a record high. Pendleton discusses the missionary efforts of theological students Theodore Pitcairn and Karl Alden; He fully supports their work, and he hopes that others will come to realize the importance of external growth for the Church.
