Letter from N.D. Pendleton to Rev. Andrew Czerny, 1914-06-20
Scope and Contents
Typed letter from N.D. Pendleton to Rev. Andrew Czerny in London, England. The Bishop (W.F. Pendleton) has found it necessary to turn over much of his work to N.D. Pendleton, so N.D. Pendleton is answering Czerny’s letter to the Bishop. Czerny has been dealing with disturbances in the London society, and Pendleton reports that there is unrest in other church societies as well over the question of the state and condition of life after death. While the Bishop sees this as an important topic, he does not believe the Church should put out an official stance. He holds that church members should be left in freedom to study the Writings for themselves and draw their own conclusions. The Bishop will not be able to travel to England this summer, so Mr. (Eldred) Iungerich will attend to the Assembly and deliver the Bishop’s greetings instead. Pendleton and his wife (Beatrice) will also be unable to attend the Assembly, so Pendleton requests Czerny convey their greetings. The Bishop regrets that Czerny is not currently with them in Bryn Athyn; They have just had a very interesting series of meetings, and the laying of the cornerstone of the cathedral on the previous day was a very impressive ceremony.
