Scope and Contents

Typed letter from N.D. Pendleton to Rev. William B. Caldwell in Glenview, IL, USA. Pendleton acknowledges Caldwell’s letter of April 2nd. Pendleton remarks that while his last letter was not intended to increase the desire of the Immanuel Church Council to have George DeCharms, the Council’s wishes must be respected, and so Pendleton will include DeCharms’ name among the nominees. Pendleton is glad to hear Caldwell will come to Bryn Athyn on May 1st. In the interim between a pastor leaving and his successor arriving, the Bishop becomes the Pastor in charge. If this happens, Pendleton is satisfied with the Council’s plan to ask Mr. Gladish to preach on Sundays and Mr. Smith to supervise the school. Pendleton requests Caldwell pass along the enclosed letter addressed to the Pastor’s Council of the Immanuel Church in which Pendleton informs them that Caldwell is officially resigning as Pastor and asks them to nominate a replacement from a list of ministers. Names mentioned: George DeCharms, Mr. Alden, Homer Synnestvedt, Emil Cronlund, Hugo Odhner, George DeCharms, Gilbert Smith, Willis Gladish, John Headsten, Llewellyn David, Karl Alden, Theo Pitcairn.
