Letter from N.D. Pendleton to Rev. William B. Caldwell, 1916-12-09
Scope and Contents
Typed letter from N.D. Pendleton to Rev. William B. Caldwell in Glenview, IL, USA. Pendleton discusses the conflict with Mrs. Smith and the Song Book Committee; He did not tell her she was not a part of the committee, he simply informed her that Caldwell has the authority to make final decisions as the chairman of the committee. Pendleton is concerned that the Pastor’s Council in Glenview nominated members to the Board of Finance without the Pastor present, as they now have taken on power to act apart from the office of the Pastor. He writes, “Out theory of government is that the Pastor’s Council is an extension of and an accommodation of the Pastor’s use and work to a few before it reaches the many.”
