Letter from N.D. Pendleton to Rev. Gerrit Barger, 1919-11-28
Scope and Contents
Typed letter from N.D. Pendleton to Rev. Gerrit Barger in the Hague, Holland. Pendleton acknowledges Barger’s letter of Sept. 9th. Pendleton reports that the recent Assembly was the best they have ever had, and the Dedication of the Cathedral was the most impressive ceremony they have ever experienced. Pendleton is glad to hear that the Circle in Holland is slowly increasing. Pendleton discusses how Mr. (Ernst) Pfeiffer is doing in Bryn Athyn; Pfeiffer’s attitude toward the Church and toward his studies has changed, and he is now quite enthusiastic. All his teachers think he will make a good minster. Pendleton’s only criticism is Pfeiffer’s “idealistic philosophy”. Pendleton and Barger both hope arrangements will be made for Pfeiffer to return to Holland to support the work of the Church there, especially as Barger plans to leave the Hague. Pendleton is not sure what will happen to Barger’s society after he leaves, but he trusts that Providence will provide.
