Scope and Contents

Handwritten letter from N.D. Pendleton to Rev. Gerrit Barger. Letterhead: "Morley's Hotel, Trafalgar Square, London. W.C.2" Typed copy by Freda Pendleton attached. Pendleton discusses the case of the Church in England and the difficulties of uniting the Peckham Rye Society with Mr. Tilson’s society. Pendleton believes it makes sense that all who believe in the Divine Authority of the Writings should unite, but that this union should take place within the General Church body. Currently, the Peckham Rye Church is a part of the General Church, but Mr. Tilson’s society is not, and thus they cannot unite. Although Tilson has given his society sound instruction in doctrine, his society remains independent, and Pendleton worries it could drift back towards Conference upon Tilson’s death.
