Letter from N.D. Pendleton to Rev. Gerrit Barger, 1918-07-10
Scope and Contents
Typed letter from N.D. Pendleton to Rev. Gerrit Barger in the Hague, Holland. Pendleton has received Barger’s letter of May 20th in which Barger discusses the will of Miss Emma Helderman. Helderman wishes to leave a sum of money to the Church when she dies, and but there are questions over who should be named the administrator of the will. The Church in Holland is not officially legally recognized, so she may have to name the General Church as the administrator. Pendleton is wary of legal disputes; The Academy has already encountered difficultly when a church group split in England and money from the Glenville bequest was claimed by both sides. As a lawyer, Mr. Raymond Pitcairn has suggested that the General Church administrate the will only until the Church in Holland has gained “sufficient standing” to take over the administration of funds. In Bryn Athyn, Pendleton performed the marriage ceremony for Mr. (Ernst) Pfeiffer and Miss Courtier on the morning of June 19th.
