Letter from N.D. Pendleton to Rev. Gerrit Barger, 1917-08-17
Scope and Contents
Typed letter from N.D. Pendleton to Rev. Gerrit Barger in the Hague, Holland. Pendleton acknowledges Barger’s letter of June 30th in which he discusses the case of a young man, recently converted, who has been doing good work for the Church in Holland. Pendleton believes this young man may be a good candidate for the ministry, if that is what he chooses. Pendleton thinks they would be able to secure the usual theological student stipend for him, but it would not be enough to support his wife or pay for his traveling expenses to Bryn Athyn. Pendleton thinks they may be able to get more financial assistance by appealing to Mr. Pitcairn, as was the case with (Ernst) Deltenre. Attached is a copy of a cablegram to Barger from Mr. Alden, dated Sept. 1st, 1917: “Pitcairn will pay Fluiter’s passage. Fiancée may follow later if Fluiter proves entirely satisfactory.”
