Scope and Contents

Typed letter from N.D. Pendleton to Rev. Gerrit Barger in the Hague, Holland. Pendleton acknowledges Barger’s letters of July 4th and 25th with enclosed communication from Mr. Mofokeng to Barger. In his letter of July 4th, Barger wrote about his wish for his nephew, Gerrit Kruyswijk to join the New Church ministry and continue the work of the Church in Holland. Pendleton suggests they must wait on the Lord, who knows the highest good for all. Pendleton writes that they do not have a policy on accepting unbaptized scholars, but that the school must be careful; “Many New church schools, have been established and lost their distinctiveness as New Church schools because of accepting other than New Church students.” Pendleton finds the letter from Mofokeng interesting; The General Church has accepted “Episcopal supervision” over the church movement in Basutoland, and they have gotten permission for Mr. (Frederick) Gyllenhaal to visit them as often as needed. Pendleton and Mrs. (Beatrice) Pendleton send kind regards to Barger and Mrs. Barger, and Miss Mary (Barger).
