Scope and Contents

Typed letter from N.D. Pendleton to Rev. Gerrit Barger in the Hague, Holland. Pendleton asks Barger if the mind of the Chinese gentleman who has been reading Divine Love and Wisdom with them is opening to the idea that the Writings are a Divine Revelation. Pendleton believes the time will come for the New Church to spread in China and that Providence will “indicate that time by a provision for translating the Writings into Chinese.” Most of this work (translating) in the past has been undertaken by the Swedenborg Society, and Pendleton thinks it might be a good idea to inform Mr. Gardiner of the matter. In Bryn Athyn, Mr. Pitcairn’s illness continues, and it seems he may not recover. A successful joint meeting of the Ministers’ Council and the Executive Committee was held to discuss the causes of disturbance in the Church; Pendleton hopes it will ease tensions and bring them back into a more normal state.
