Letter from N.D. Pendleton to Rev. Gustaf Baeckström, 1933-04-06
Scope and Contents
Typed letter from N.D. Pendleton to Rev. Gustaf Baeckström in Stockholm, Sweden. Pendleton apologizes for not writing sooner; They have had a very busy year in Bryn Athyn. The Ministers’ Meetings were consumed this year by Mr. (Ernst) Pfeiffer and his followers with the new teachings that they have been espousing for the last two or three years. A compilation of critical minsters’ papers, with responses in defense of the new teachings by Pfeiffer and Theodore Pitcairn, will be published in the next issue of the Life. Pendleton acknowledges Baeckstrom’s letters of Jan. 5th, Jan. 7th, and Feb. 15th with enclosed General Church membership applications. Pendleton trusts that the group at Jönköping will continue to grow, and he understands why Baeckstrom is satisfied with the results of Mr. Sigstedt’s leadership. Pendleton was surprised by the news of Mr. (Johan Edvard) Sandstrom’s death. Pendleton believes that Sandstrom’s son, Erik Sandstrom shows promise and will make an able minister. Yesterday Pendleton received Erik Sandstrom as an official candidate for the priesthood, and he will now begin assisting with Cathedral services as part of his training.
