Letter from N.D. Pendleton to Rev. Gustaf Baeckström, 1932-11-26
Scope and Contents
Typed letter from N.D. Pendleton to Rev. Gustaf Baeckström in Stockholm, Sweden. Pendleton acknowledges Baeckstrom’s letter of Sept. 13th. Pendleton notes Baeckstrom’s visit to the Sigstedt family and thanks Baeckstrom for the photographs of Baeckstrom in ministerial robes and the Jonkoping group. They have tried to carry on activities in Bryn Athyn despite the depression. They have had to close the new assembly hall to cut back on expenses, so Friday classes, suppers, etc. have returned to the old auditorium in the upper part of DeCharms Hall. Mr. Finkeldey now must hold the Academy gymnastic classes outside, weather permitting. School and society socials have gone back to being held in the auditorium, with more limited invitations. Pendleton thinks the General Church has been hit by the depression harder than either the Academy or the Bryn Athyn Church. Pendleton believes the Church can “pull through” with these drastic reductions, and he hopes that Sweden has not suffered as much as America has.
