Scope and Contents

Typed letter from N.D. Pendleton to Rev. Gustaf Baeckström in Stockholm, Sweden. News of the death of Nancy Eigstedt (or Ligstedt?) has reached Pendleton. He associates her with his happy memories of the beginning of New Church work in Sweden and his trip to Sweden in 1913. Pendleton notes with interest the success of Baeckstrom’s lectures and Baeckstrom’s proposed missionary trip to the country districts. In Bryn Athyn, they are also attempting some missionary work; In the papers they have advertised a series of eight sermons on Sunday afternoons for strangers. At the first of these services they had more than 400 visitors, with an additional 120 visitors at the regular Sunday service. Mr. Karl Alden will give the first four services, and Mr. (William?) Whitehead will give the final four. They will have to wait to see if there will be any real results, i.e. conversions to the Church. Pendleton is pleased to hear that Baeckstrom’s magazine has received so many new subscribers that it is almost self-supporting, and also that Mr. and Mrs. Liden are both recovering from their automobile accident. Pendleton fears he will not get away for a rest this summer as he is building an addition on his house, but members of his family will be visiting the seashore.
