Letter from N.D. Pendleton to Rev. Gustaf Baeckström, 1925-03-13
Scope and Contents
Typed letter from N.D. Pendleton to Rev. Gustaf Baeckström in Stockholm, Sweden. Pendleton acknowledges Baeckstrom’s letter of Feb. 9th with the enclosed death record of Miss Hildur Ferrander, baptismal record, and message from Swedenborg’s birthday celebration. Pendleton notes with interest Baeckstrom’s remarkable experience at a recent funeral; He comments, “I have never known anything of that sort in my own case, save once when a young man; then it was matter of hearing not of sight, - the ringing of bells most beautiful, some six or more strokes, and the sensation which followed was strange, curious, and indescribable.” Pendleton’s trip to Rio de Janeiro has been canceled; Mr. Leonardos, the society’s main financial supporter, has failed in his banking business, and so there is no longer a suitable place for Pendleton to stay. Now that he may never be able to visit, Pendleton is concerned that the 3 men who have been authorized to officiate as ministers will not be properly ordained by the laying on of hands. Pendleton will now spend the summer building an addition on his house as he originally intended.
