Letter from N.D. Pendleton to Rev. Gustaf Baeckström, 1922-01-12
Scope and Contents
Typed letter from N.D. Pendleton to Rev. Gustaf Baeckström in Stockholm, Sweden. Pendleton thanks Baeckstrom for the photograph of the Stockholm Society. He could not identify Miss (Senta) Centervall in the photograph, and he hears she has gone to Germany to teach because of her health. Pendleton is pleased that the decision of the Court in Sweden was in Baeckstrom’s favor, but he regrets that the matter is not fully settled. The appeal will probably be drawn out, but Pendleton believes they will win in the end. In Bryn Athyn, the February council meetings are approaching. This year they will have ministers’ meetings in the mornings, joint ministers’ and Academy faculty meetings in the afternoons, and public meetings in the evenings. The joint meetings are designed to draw ecclesiastical and educational uses closer together; Pendleton writes, “Indeed I favor the view that our educational uses are in essence ecclesiastical.” He believes a Church society is not truly established until they have a school, and he hopes Sweden will have a school soon.
