Letter from N.D. Pendleton to Rev. Gustaf Baeckström, 1921-12-27
Scope and Contents
Typed letter from N.D. Pendleton to Rev. Gustaf Baeckström in Stockholm, Sweden. Pendleton acknowledges Baeckstrom’s letters of Nov. 8th and Dec. 10th. The 3 applications for General Church membership have been accepted. Pendleton notes the confusion among the Church’s opponents (i.e. Convention Church?). He thinks it is strange that they should disagree with each other over whether to give recognition to the General Church when the Doctrines clearly advocate for charity and kindness toward people of different doctrinal opinions. Pendleton fears they view the General Church as a rival with no right to exist. He writes, “As long as they would destroy us we cannot mix with them to any good purpose.” Miss Agda V. Eldh has joined another religious body and her name will be removed from the General Church membership list. Pendleton has received Baeckstrom’s book “Light and Life” and his magazine “Nova Ecclesia”; Pendleton thinks perhaps they can get Miss Odhner to review them in the Life. Pendleton looks back fondly on his trip to Sweden last summer, and he hopes he and his wife (Beatrice) will be able to visit again.
