Letter from N.D. Pendleton to Rev. Gustaf Baeckström, 1920-02-24
Scope and Contents
Typed letter from N.D. Pendleton to Rev. Gustaf Baeckström in Stockholm, Sweden. Pendleton reports that plans are going forward for an International Church Council in Bryn Athyn in June. Pendleton has been interested in the idea of an international council ever since Mr. Ottley and Mr. Tilson joined the General Church. The thought first came to him on the occasion of the Durban Society’s admission into the General Church. Pendleton believes the success of the Academy movement will “depend upon the leaders of it seeing eye to eye, both with regard to the existence of that need and the means of its fulfilment.” Pendleton has presented this idea to the Consistory and the Executive Committee, and there was general consensus in favor of having the European ministers come to America. The Church will defray travel costs for ministers, and Pendleton hopes Baeckstrom will be able to attend. Pendleton has received an interesting letter from Theodore Pitcairn about his visit to Brussels, Paris, and Lausanne. Pendleton does not know yet whether Mr. Gyllenhaal will be called to serve the Church in London and Colchester.
