Letter from N.D. Pendleton to Rev. Gustaf Baeckström, 1920-02-12
Scope and Contents
Typed letter from N.D. Pendleton to Rev. Gustaf Baeckström in Stockholm, Sweden. In a letter written to Mrs. (Beatrice) Pendleton from Miss (Senta) Centervall, Pendleton has heard that Baeckstrom is suffering from over-exertion due to his missionary efforts. Pendleton thinks Baeckstrom needs a break, and he suggests Baeckstrom come to America in the spring for rest and a change. In June, they are hoping to hold an important Council meeting in Bryn Athyn to consider how best to promote the New Church throughout the world. Mr. Ottley and Mr. Tilson may come from London, and it is possible that Mr. Deltenre of Brussels will attend as well. Pendleton hopes to ordain Baeckstrom into the second degree of the priesthood at this meeting. Pendleton is convinced that “the greatest need of the General Church throughout the world is that it should come as near as possible into a state of complete unity of thought and purpose.” Pendleton hopes to accomplish this by bringing the priests from all over the world together “in order to renew the old states of affection established in student days.”
