Scope and Contents

Typed letter from N.D. Pendleton to Rev. Gustaf Baeckström in Stockholm, Sweden. Pendleton acknowledges Baeckstrom’s letters of Feb. 8th and April 7th. Pendleton discusses the situation of Alfred Stroh; Stroh returned to Sweden the previous summer to finish phototyping Swedenborg’s manuscripts. This was supposed to be a 6 month project, for which the Church would compensate him upon completion. However, Stroh has been telling people that he is under a continuous contract on a salaried basis, and that the Church has been withholding his salary and treating him unfairly. Pendleton hopes Baeckstrom will share this information with the Stockholm Circle if it becomes necessary. Pendleton updates Baeckstrom on life in Bryn Athyn; Mr. Watanabe, a student at the Convention Theological School at Cambridge, visited and gave a lecture; Theodore Pitcairn tried to leave for Basutoland several weeks ago but was turned back because he did not have permission from the British Government. Pendleton is sorry that Baeckstrom has had to take up another job to cover his expenses. Pendleton congratulates Mrs. Baeckstrom on the birth of a son.
