Letter from N.D. Pendleton to Rev. Gustaf Baeckström, 1916-07-07
Scope and Contents
Typed letter from N.D. Pendleton to Rev. Gustaf Baeckström in Stockholm, Sweden. Pendleton acknowledges Baeckstrom's letter of March 25th and report of May 5th. The General Assembly in Bryn Athyn was very successful; There was a larger attendance than ever before (230 guests), and there was a sense of unity and hope for the future. Pendleton believes the tensions in the Church are easing a bit; "The questions that have recently disturbed the Church were brought as near to a solution as we could expect at this time, inasmuch as a definite policy with regard to them was presented and very generally accepted." Baeckstrom's report was received with satisfaction. Pendleton thinks it is to be expected that the "usual discreditable attacks" against the Academy will occur in Stockholm, but that they will eventually die out. Pendleton hopes that the war will be over soon so that he can visit Sweden.
