Scope and Contents

Typed letter from N.D. Pendleton to Rev. Elmo C. Acton in Durban, Natal, South Africa. Pendleton is offering Acton a position in Bryn Athyn as part of the Academy and as a travelling minister to Philadelphia, Merchantville, and Newark, New Jersey. Acton will receive $1800 per year from the Academy, $300 from the Advent Chruch fund, money from the offertories, and his traveling expenses will be covered. If Acton accepts this position, he will need to arive in Bryn Athyn next fall, before school starts. Pendleton proposes Philip Odhner as Acton's successor at Durban; Odhner is currently the only no who could go, and he is very highly recommended by Pendleton. If Acton accepts, he will need to officially resign from the Durban society and propose Odhner as his replacement. Acton's traveling expenses will be paid by the Academy, but Pendleton suggests that it would be in order for the Durban society to pay traveling expenses for Odhner, Odhner's wife (Beryl Caldwell), and their two small children (Pehr and Kirsten). Pendleton would like to hear from Acton as soon as Acton decides. Attached: Handwritten version of the letter by Pendleton to by typed by his secretary, V.W. Rennels
