Letter to Julius Ludewig Koethen, 1879 September 13
Scope and Contents
Two typed copies. Written in Allegheny City, PA. Incorrectly addressed to I.L. Koethen. Presents Benade's resignation as Office of Pastor fromthe F. N. Society. The sole consideration of this move is that the Lord has opened a new sphere of use. Nothing less could have moved Benade into severing "ties, through which I have been held to the service of my brethren, in so pleasant & fruitful a field of the Lord's kingdom." Has yielded to the judgement of [his] brethren of the Acacemy ... and consented to take an active part in ... the Theological School in Philadelphia. "I shall feel that there is no separation - but that I may freely cherish the hope of returning again & again among you all, as one returns to a dear & loved home.
