Scope and Contents

Typed letter from N.D. Pendleton to Rev. Fred E. Waelchli in Wyoming, Ohio, USA. Two copies, one on General Church of the New Jerusalem letterhead. Pendleton presented Waelchli’s report of the 20th with news concerning the renewal of Church life in Erie to the Consistory. In Bryn Athyn, they have been dealing with one issue after another. Pendleton was recently able to get away by taking an auto trip with his wife and his daughter, Ora. While driving through the State Forest Reservation, they passed a sign for “Newfoundland” and decided to follow it. Writing about their adventure, Pendleton says, “It proved to be thirty miles out of our way, but the woods were all red and gold. Newfoundland is now quite a little town. I enquired for the lake where we camped forty-six years ago. It is now privately owned. To me it proved a thrilling revival of old memories. I met two old people who remembered us, and told stories about us. The ground where we camped was deeply covered with golden leaves. I will tell you all about it when we meet again in February.” Names mentioned: Mrs. (Beatrice Walton Childs) Pendleton, Ora (Pendleton)
