Scope and Contents

Typed letter from N.D. Pendleton to Rev. Fred E. Waelchli in Wyoming, Ohio, USA. Pendleton has received Waelchli’s recent letter. He comments that the “Gustafson” matter appears to be “shaping up satisfactorily,” and he thinks the way may be opening for further General Church development in the South. He writes that while it is nice to have Mr. Speirs as an ally, it blurs the lines between Convention’s work and the General Church’s work. Pendleton confirms Waelchli’s view of “S. G.’s” aloof attitude. S. G. supports the Church but has too high an opinion of himself. Pendleton advises Waelchli to “handle him gently, but don’t let him put anything over on you.” Pendleton is encouraged that Waelchli is increasing his number of yearly visits to Detroit from four to six, and he notes that the friendliness of the new Convention minister, Mr. Beals, will have its advantages and disadvantages. Pendleton wonders what Hugo (Odhner) and Karl (Alden) will think of Mr. Beals. Names mentioned: (Rev. Frank?) Gustafson, Mr. (Junius B.) Spiers, “S. G.”, Mr. Beals, Mrs. (Violet Emily Goodwin) Day, Hugo (Odhner), Karl (Alden), Alena (Hughes Waelchli)
