Letter from N.D. Pendleton to Rev. Fred E. Waelchli, 1929-04-04
Scope and Contents
Typed letter from N.D. Pendleton to Rev. Fred E. Waelchli in Wyoming, Ohio, USA. Two copies, one on General Church of the New Jerusalem letterhead. Pendleton has just authorized a trip to the Northwest by Henry Heinrich. He instructed Heinrichs to write to Waelchli so that they may coordinate their travel plans. Pendleton has received Waelchli’s letter concerning his trip South. He feels it is worthwhile to continue visits to Atlanta and he hopes the Church will one day have a permanent foothold there. Tensions are settling down in Bryn Athyn following disagreement over their new building project. Pendleton appreciated Waelchli’s comments on the situation regarding the pastorate in Bryn Athyn. Pendleton inherited the pastoral office from the previous Bishop, who once told him “that he could not function here as Bishop unless he held that office...” Pendleton is sure there will be changes to the order and organization of the Church in the future, but at present, he feels it is best to continue the existing order. He writes, “I think it may be fairly said in defense of that order, that no Society of the New Church has ever been more efficiently served.” He shares credit for this with his three able assistants. Names mentioned: Henry Heinrichs, Homer (Synnestvedt)
