He agrees that the passing of his brother, William Frederic Pendleton, marks a great change in the Church but remarks that he feels his brother’s presence, if anything, more strongly. He writes, “It is as if the definite fact of his material presence is lacking, but a freer presence of his spirit is felt.” Pendleton is pleased that the Middleport society has continued to sustain itself, and he takes their refusal to sell the church as a good omen. Pendleton approves of Peter Klippenstein’s plan regarding Los Angeles, but a decision cannot yet be reached as it relies on too many other factors. In Bryn Athyn, Pendleton has heard a rumor that Waelchli intends to go to Kitchener. He hopes to have the Church’s affairs in the US “rounded up” before taking his summer trip to Europe.
