Letter from N.D. Pendleton to Rev. Fred E. Waelchli, 1926-09-11
Scope and Contents
Typed letter from N.D. Pendleton to Rev. Fred E. Waelchli in San Francisco, California, USA. Pendleton has received Waelchli’s travel report of August 19th. Pendleton thinks overall there is a fair prospect for the Church in Los Angeles though he acknowledges that, as often happens with missionary efforts, “discouraging elements are mingled with those that are encouraging.” Pendleton and his wife were touched by Waelchli’s report of a young mother with her children, abandoned by their father, standing up to take the confession of faith for herself and her children. Pendleton hopes Waelchli has been in good health during the summer and that he will return to Cincinnati strong for the winter. He tells Waelchli about his own summer, writing, “As for myself, I spent five weeks at Ocean City with my family and cattle, for the sake of the refreshing sea breezes. The cattle included a wire terrier, a maltese cat, and five bantam chickens. However, I persuaded Nancy to leave the chickens at home, since we were going down by auto and it was difficult if not impossible to adjust the chicken coop on top of the auto. She finally consented.” They have now all arrived safely home. Names mentioned: Peter Klippenstein, Nancy (Pendleton)
