Letter from N.D. Pendleton to Rev. Fred E. Waelchli, 1925-07-02
Scope and Contents
Typed letter from N.D. Pendleton to Rev. Fred E. Waelchli in Hollywood, California, USA. Pendleton thinks Waelchli may be interested to know that he was recently called to help Olivia and Willard by the side of the road after they ran out of gas; Willard was teaching Olivia to drive and forgot to monitor the gas gauge. Pendleton has recently returned from Pittsburgh where the Sons of the Academy hosted a large assembly-like gathering. Pendleton felt there was something of the old Academy spirit. He writes, “. . . my reflection now is that we shall need a very able young ministry to keep pace with the present energetic young laymen, who are many and earnestly devoted.” In Bryn Athyn, almost all the Academy employees have left for the summer except Mr. Alden Sr. and Miss Richardson. Pendleton hopes Waelchli is having a successful trip on the west coast. Pendleton is particularly interested in Los Angeles and establishing a permanent New Church center there. Pendleton was sorry to learn that Mrs. Williamson intends to leave Middleport, but he has hope that Middleport will survive as it has “true Academy spirit.” Names mentioned: Fred Davis, Willard (Pendleton), Olivia (Waelchli?), Sons of the Academy, Geof (Geoffrey Childs?), Alec (Sargeant?), Mr. Alden Sr., Miss (Elizabeth) Richardson, Mrs. (Lila?) Williamson
