Scope and Contents

Typed letter from N.D. Pendleton to Rev. Fred E. Waelchli in Cincinnati, Ohio, USA. Pendleton has received Waelchli’s report of October 27th concerning his trip to Middleport and Columbus. Pendleton notes the “Wiley-Boatman incident” and comments that Boatman seems to be doing better at the Academy this year, his countenance being less sullen than in the past. Pendleton enjoyed his recent visit to Cincinnati as always and retains hope of a revival of the Church there. In Bryn Athyn, they have begun preparing for the February mid-year meetings. Pendleton hopes to ordain Henry Heinrichs into the second degree of the priesthood during these meetings. He has found it necessary to authorize Heinrichs to perform the sacraments associated with the second degree and would like to return to order by having him ordained as soon as possible. Pendleton also comments on the Academy’s success in football. He writes, “Football ended in a great victory. Every body, even the staid Faculty was elated. We and the ex-students of Bryn Athyn are giving the boys a special football dance this coming Saturday in honor of their achievement.” Names mentioned: Wiley family, (Ellison) Boatman, Karl (Alden), George (DeCharms), Henry Heinrichs
