Letter from N.D. Pendleton to Rev. Fred E. Waelchli, 1923-10-09
Scope and Contents
Typed letter from N.D. Pendleton to Rev. Fred E. Waelchli in Cincinnati, Ohio, USA. Pendleton has received Waelchli’s letter of October 7th and is now more convinced than ever of the usefulness of Waelchli’s trips to the west coast. In Bryn Athyn, they have just had a visit from Mrs. Sweet of Portland, Oregon. She attended Holy Supper and the annual commemoration of the Dedication of the Cathedral, during which they repeat many features of the original dedication. Pendleton notes Waelchli’s report of Spokane, Washington and the potential for the Church there. Pendleton believes they could build up the west cost groups if they had more resources, but Providence seems to be preventing this. Pendleton leaves tomorrow for a trip to Pittsburgh. Mr. Merrell also visited Bryn Athyn recently and told Pendleton of the loss in membership in Cincinnati. Pendleton thinks Waelchli will miss Clara Hanlin on his next visit to Middleport but mentions that they are enjoying her presence in the Academy. Finally, Pendleton comments, “I of course know of your laborious correspondence, and I am sure that your labors with be repaid on the spiritual side at least.” Names mentioned: Mrs. (Bessie) Sweet, Harry Putman (Putnam?), Walter Childs, Mrs. (Beatrice Walton Childs) Pendleton, Mr. (Charles) Merrell, Clara Hanlin
