Scope and Contents

Handwritten letter from a husband in Paris, France, to his wife. Letter signed “Alex,” possibly Alex Linday (?) or Alexander Pitcairn? 1 wide page folded in half, equivalent to 2 pages, double-sided.

Contents: -writer just returned to Paris following 10 day trip through Belgium, Holland, & Germany; left rest of traveling party at Strasbourg, they will continue to Switzerland & Italy -anxious to return home & see wife; counting hours until departure on 1st of August -recounts trip; travelled from Paris with 4 Pgh (Pittsburgh?) people to Brussels, Antwerp, Amsterdam, Heidelberg, & Strasbourg; saw beautiful lace products, Heidelberg castle, & famous clock at Strasbourg Cathedral -going to a picture gallery today with the girls -Mrs. Burns has landed & will arrive on July 23rd; is mistaken if she thinks she can live & travel more cheaply in Europe than at home; America is superior in every respect -Mr. Benade left for England, will spend 1 month in [unintelligible town/city name] with the girls -wife should not forget to meet him in New York
