Contents: -response to Gertrude’s letter of Oct 27th; written in three parts, dated Dec. 6th, Dec. 8th, and Dec. 15th -expresses concern for Gertrude’s health following recent troubles; hopes she will continue sharing her burdens w/ him -doesn’t know if his idealized vision of the future (see Oct. 15th letter) will come to pass, but he feels possessive of Gertrude and will always protect her; “I hold that I possess a little claim upon you, come what may, I will bring a case of ejectment if any body undertakes a contra possession.”; doesn’t think much about whom he will marry, only that marriage will bring an end to his “fearfully chaotic state” -understands why she is despondent over not reciprocating friend’s romantic feelings; has friend arrived at his destination yet? has she heard from him? -Tuller’s mood sometimes reflects the dreary snowy winter; wonders if New Church people develop early awareness that keeps them from experiencing youthful thoughtlessness -passion for law as “man’s greatest endeavor at the creation of rules of order”; man’s laws are a manifestation of God’s laws -reading Emerson’s essay on Swedenborg -continuing to study correspondence; will read Conjugial Love w/ Gertrude if she wants, although his pace will be slower than hers; considering purchasing complete Latin set of Swedenborg’s Writings -has been receiving issues of “Turner Art Gallery”; will send some to her shortly -also sending drawing he created by completing a local artist’s pencil study; would have framed it, but did not know Gertrude’s taste
