Contents: -July 3rd letter received; Childs doesn’t write short letters to invite brevity; sender should try writing him a long -morning mail reminds Childs of old adage “Misfortune never came simply”: Jimmy (?) turning holy New England against them & Roeder “skips bleating from our den warning the innocent to beware of out eight deadly sins” -P.S.: “John Pitcairn has arrived. He still imagines the Academy strong. Keep the news from him or he may be so scared as to rush back by the next steamer. Of course I keep the Bishop informed by cable, so there is no danger that he will risk his neck by coming to this side. When the ancient discovers todays dispatch I imagine that he will take his courage inspirer extra waterless.”
