Typed copy of a portion of a letter from William H. Benade in Cairo, Egypt to Maria C. Hogan. 2 pages, double spaced.

Contents: -long & delightful voyage along Nile -paintings depicting “conscientiously designed” correspondences decorate walls of temples, palaces, & tombs; religion part of all daily affairs -learned that Egyptians thought sand was evil & would counteract it by sowing many small bronze/clay images of deities like seeds around temples -evidence of decline with introduction of “monstrous” animal-headed deities; perversion of correspondences for use of magical acts -conquering nations introduced some idolatrous practices but mostly adopted religion of Egyptians
