Handwritten letter from Dr. George R. Starkey in Washington to his son, George G. Starkey. Seal with the work “Excelsior” (*?) pressed into upper lefthand corner. 2 pages, double-sided.
Contents:
-attended church; stayed to communion; enjoys worship in Vineland more than Washington
-George must save physical & mental energy for studying; instead of reading fiction, he should spend spare time in social relaxation & merriment; he should go to bed early & wake up before Mamma to make the fires
-George must also learn to dance when Pauline gets home & should consider it part of his education; Starkey has always regretted not knowing how to dance
-hopes George has made New Years resolutions to be better; must stop taking his irritability out on Ned
-great rewards in life to be gained by “an honest loyalty to the Captain Who leads on His hosts!”
