Handwritten letter from Walter C. Childs in Sea Bright, N.J. to John Pitcairn, Jr. “W. C. C.” crested letterhead. Handwriting difficult to decipher.

-left home somewhat over a week ago once riots had subsided; quiet now except in coal regions; Molly Maguire element cannot be put down
-spent few hours with Pendleton & Dr. Boericke in Phila; planned to have meeting same evening as foundation of Cherry St. Society
-saw Starkey, Campbell, & Farrington; Starkey has written letter to Mr. T. S. Arthurs to enlighten him on doctrinal use of wine
-Childs & the General (Stuart) spent last few days at little town near Long Beach; fellow boarders include Mrs. Wethered (?), new Church woman from San Fransico, & Mr. Kellogg, who sends warm love to John & ‘Peetie Benade
-spent night with Carter; his lady love still lives
-1st issue of Serial published & sent to John; waiting to publish 2nd issue to get idea of potential subscribers
-often asked by friends about welfare of John & Benade; perhaps they could send a letter dispatch
