Handwritten letter from Rev. W. H. Benade in Alleghany City (Allegheny), PA. Addressed to “My dear Docter”. Likely Dr. N. C. Burnham. Handwriting difficult to decipher.
Contents:
-meeting of “A.” in Phila.; Doctor’s presence missed; increased earnestness for their work; 3 new members received (Mr. Farrington, Mr. Campell, Mr. Starkey)
-report of Theological School students progress very favorable; 2 will be ready to come to the Doctor in Sept.; Mr. Bostock recently joined class; appropriation of $500 for Tafel’s services & $100 for Mr. Pendleton
-Journal: due to cost and lack of written material, will publish an irregular serial instead of a regular periodical; Mr. Stuart appointed editor; request Doctor’s paper for 1st issue
-transcription: Benade will send Doctor previously transcribed passages from the Writings to save some time
-1769 copy of “Brief Exposition” found in Holland with statement in Swedenborg’s handwriting that it was written by divine command and is the “Adventus Domini”; will be photolithographed; paper announcing its discovery as introduction to new Journal?
-quote in Latin from No. 2513
-will they also discover the missing numbers (?) of T. C. R. in Holland?
-Benade and John (Pitcairn) going abroad this summer; will stop in Holland; Benade will be content when all the numbers (?) have been photolithographed
-will send remittance next week; couldn’t send earlier as Walter has been away
-will the Doctor & Mrs. Burnham be at the Association meeting on the 7th?
-Maggie Pitcairn delighted with letter from Mrs. Burnham
-has the Doctor seen the new Bost. Mag? (Boston Magazine?)
