Scope and Contents

Handwritten letter from Frank Ballou in Georgetown, Colorado, to John Pitcairn, Jr. in Oil City, PA. “Pelican Mill” letterhead. Handwriting difficult to decipher in places.

Contents: -according to Artemas, Pitcairn has sailed to America; will be in Oil City for 7-10 days -Report on Pelican Mill: storms, ore supply issues, and equipment breakdowns have caused delays; net profit over last two months about half of what was expected; mill still turning a profit while running at half capacity -Report on Silver Plume Mill: functioning as expected; had to use profit from Pelican Mill as capital; won’t be able to pay interest on loan from Pitcairn until about July -visit from Dr. Hibbard: accompanied Hibbard to Denver; called on Dick De Charms to preach; formed small society of 12 members; Dr. Wheeler is principal man of new Society -travel East; may arrive in New York Jan. 2nd; would like to see Pitcairn & hear about what he and the Bp. (Bishop Benade) have been doing
