Handwritten letter from Pauline "Paul" Starkey Wells in San Francisco, CA to her father, Dr. George R. Starkey. Seal pressed into the upper lefthand corner reads “CAREW,” surrounded by a laurel wreath.

Contents: -Pauline’s spiritual struggles & regeneration -David visited Woodside; Pauline accompanied him home to San F.; Mrs. Farwell wants Pauline to stay with them until she goes back east -Pauline’s & David’s relationship: treats her with respect & kindness like a husband, but unlikely to accept New Church doctrines -Pauline & David listened to sermon by Mr. Doughty on evil slaying the wicked -will write to Mr. Taber upon return to Woodside this week -when can Pauline come home? -thanks to Starkey for sending papers & tracks -Pauline’s long walks with Aunt Em, Mrs. Dawley, Addie, 4 dogs, & 1 or 2 cats -how are Mrs. West & Miss Driver? love to friends in Washington
