Letter from Dr. George R. Starkey to Gertrude Starkey Pitcairn, 1876-05-28
Scope and Contents
Handwritten letter from Dr. George R. Starkey in Washington, D. C. to his daughter, Gertrude Starkey Pitcairn. “G. R. Starkey, M. D.” letterhead. Dated "Sunday 28 1876" Mrs. H. (Hatch?) and Aunt (Sarah?) now wish to travel on Wednesday, and, as Starkey plans to accompany them to Philadelphia, this leaves him very little time to collect payments etc. He is doubtful he can get everything done in one day, but in any event, he expects to be at home on Saturday. If Gertrude needs anything in Philadelphia, she may write to him or meet him there. In Washington, they had a pleasant Sunday service with a good sermon by Mr. Plantz (?). Starkey is glad Gertrude is feeling the good effects of the weather, and he instructs her and Mamma “not to get all beaten (?) out by Convention time.” He reports seeing Fanny Abell’s baby as well as Lucy Wilson and her mother. The Hatch’s send their love. Names mentioned: Mrs. H (Hatch?), Aunt (Aunt Sarah?), Mr. Plantz (? Pluntz? Plautz?), Convention, Fanny Abell, Lucy Wilson, the Hatch’s Places mentioned: Phila. (Philadelphia)
