Letter from Joseph R. Kendig to John Pitcairn, 1876-08-09
Scope and Contents
Handwritten letter from Joseph R. Kendig in Renovo, Pa to John Pitcairn, Jr. in Oil City, Pa. Transcription: “Dr Sir You will please excuse me for coming to you with the request I am about to make, but our needs are urgent. We have started a New Church Sunday school in this place, and have an attendance of from twenty to thirty. We are much in need of books etc. necessary to the running of a Sunday school, and as we meet in a Hall for which we pay rent it takes most of our contributions to pay the rent. Now if you possibly can without too great inconvenience give us assistance in this our effort to establish the New Church in this place, we will all feel under obligations to you. We have held meeting since July last once a week and every prospect to continue. Yours respectfully, Jos. R. Kendig P.S. (I am still employed in supl. office)”
