Transcription: “Dear sir: This morn’g I rec’d your check for $600.00 and enclosed note for $648.00. I am very thankful for the loan as well as the low rate of interest you have placed on it and the promptness in sending it. I have already applied most of it to the purposes I told you of. I hope before the year passes I shall be in such a shape as to be in no need of aid, but rather able to help some one else Yours truly D. Cowley”
