Letter from Dr. George R. Starkey to Caira Skelton Starkey, 1875
Scope and Contents
Handwritten letter from Dr. George R. Starkey in Washington, D.C. to his wife, Caira Skelton Starkey. “G. R. Starkey, M. D.” letterhead. Dated "Wednes. 17 1875" Starkey has received Caira’s letter. He feels it’s been a long time since he’s been home. He was sorry to read the little ones are sick, but Caira hasn’t given him any data by which he can prescribe treatment. If necessary, she should send for one of the doctors; He sent each of them a postal this week. Starkey himself felt sick yesterday but is alright today. Early Monday morning, a man and his brother-in-law arrived at the house with three young children. They have just departed, and Starkey writes that the visit “knocked Nellie on her beam ends. (but then she wasn’t so much down, as some.)” Starkey is happy that Mrs. P.’s outlook has improved, and he wonders if Miss Preston (?) threw cold water on her efforts. He asks if Caira had a nice time with her and whether George had a nice time with Sam. Starkey plans to attend a social event tonight at Dr. Donaldson’s where Mr. Knight from Boston will “hold forth on China.” Names mentioned: Nellie (Hatch?), Mrs. P., Miss Preston (Prester? Prestor?), Geroge (George G. Starkey), Sam, Dr. Donaldson, Mr. Knight Places mentioned: Boston, China
