Letter from Dr. George R. Starkey to Caira Skelton Starkey, 1875
Scope and Contents
Handwritten letter from Dr. George R. Starkey in Washington, D.C. to his wife, Caira Skelton Starkey. “G. R. Starkey, M. D.” letterhead. Dated "Tuesday 7th, 1875." Starkey has received Caira’s letter and is very distressed about her eyes. He hopes she has sent for Gertrude. He inquires what Dr. Malcolm says about Dora being sick again. The fog and rain in Washington seem to mirror their “mental clouds,” and Starkey hopes everything will clear in a few days. He read in the paper that Novella Hibberd’s husband and their farm hand got into a fight with some trespassing “gunners,” which resulted in the farm hand’s death. Starkey would like George to send a postal every day until Caira has recovered. He thinks perhaps Anne should go back so she can be treated for her troubles, and he says Calcarea is the medicine. Names mentioned: Gertrude (Gertrude Starkey Pitcairn), Dora (Theodora Starkey Smtih), Dr. Malcom, Novella Hibberd, George (George G. Starkey), Anne
