Letter from Dr. George R. Starkey to Gertrude Starkey Pitcairn , 1875-07-26
Scope and Contents
Handwritten letter from Dr. George R. Starkey in Philadelphia to his daughter, Gertrude Starkey Pitcairn. “G. R. Starkey, M. D.” letterhead.
Starkey is glad Gertrude is improving and has the opportunity to continue. He wonders why she hasn’t said how Auntie P. is doing. At home, they are “tolerable well” again; The girls came home Friday, improved by their visit. Yesterday, Starkey visited Mr. Hall’s with Mama and Ned. They found Anne and Georgiana had gone on a trip to New York, Saratoga, etc. with their Uncle Joe. Aunt Georgie was too ill to accompany them as planned, but hopes to join them soon. In their place, they found Mr. and Mrs. Chadbourne (?) with Serena, Joe, the baby, and their cousin Will. The neighbors are in Atlantic City and have left the Halls to occupy the house. Starkey saw Uncle Dan today; He said he would take one of the girls down to be with Julia and then return to work on Wednesday. He didn’t say that they had left Capt. Chamberlain’s for the Macy House. George wishes Gertie would write to let him know whether Auntie P. got his letter. Starkey suggests Gerturde become acquainted with the nice newcomers. He has not seen “the 10th streeters” since he last wrote.
