Letter from Dr. George R. Starkey to Gertrude Starkey Pitcairn, 1875-12-16

Identifier: Sub-Series 1

Scope and Contents

Handwritten letter from Dr. George R. Starkey in Washington, D.C. to his daughter, Gertrude Starkey Pitcairn. “G. R. Starkey, M. D.” letterhead. Starkey has just received Gertrude’s letter and is somewhat disturbed. He feels very sorry for Mamma- 10x more sorry for her than for the loss of the money. He has written her a comforting letter, and he thinks no one will even know the difference in a year. Regarding “that project,” Starkey writes that he will “interpose no obstacle” if they think it is best, though it seems to him like a wild scheme. As Aunty P. is “a little out of her head,” Starkey asks that they take counsel from the rest of the household and abandon the project if it seems as preposterous to them as it does to him. He is glad to hear Auntie P.’s health is improving; Perhaps she will come to her senses and decide against the project before it is too late. That will make Gertrude’s stay in Philadelphia two months, which Starkey thinks is out of character. Names mentioned: Aunty P. Places mentioned: Phila (Philadelphia)
